MEET THE FOUNDER
Jackie Monk is a lifelong lover of greeting cards, fine stationery, and the art—and power—of handwritten correspondence. In April 2022, she launched Junebug Ink, a Black- and woman-owned greeting card company that celebrates Black American culture, heritage, and joy. The company is named in honor of her late sister June, a passionate stationery collector and devoted letter writer.
Before founding Junebug Ink, Jackie built a distinguished editorial career at some of the most respected publications in the country. She served as Managing Editor at WSJ., The Wall Street Journal Magazine, where she oversaw print and digital teams, led editorial operations, supervised budgets, and launched WSJ. China. Prior to that, she spent 15 years at Real Simple as Managing Editor and held executive editorial roles at Essence, InStyle, Vibe, Girl, Bridal Guide, New Woman, and Beauty Digest. Her writing has also appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, Heart & Soul, Cosmopolitan, Suede, and Ladies’ Home Journal.
A seasoned journalist with deep expertise in editorial strategy, team leadership, and operational excellence, Jackie is known for her ability to synthesize information, implement effective systems, and bring creative projects to life. In her twenties, she became one of the first African American beauty editors at a major general-audience women’s magazine when she was named Beauty Editor at New Woman.
Throughout her career, Jackie has remained a dedicated mentor to students, rising journalists, and industry professionals. Her work and impact have been recognized with honors such as the Folio: Top Women in Media award, the Black Women in Media: Literature & Publishing Award, and ColorComm’s Black Women Making History in Communications award.
